ABOUT

Milou Broersen is a designer who explores how daily rituals are enhanced by human connection and thoughtful design. Her work is inspired by the interplay of light on colors and shapes, and driven by a passion for materials with an evolving texture that age gracefully in reaction to their use. This often results in handmade pieces, designed for longevity that seamlessly integrate into their surroundings.

Her tableware collection is made entirely from porcelain. A material that constantly changes throughout the process, from powder to liquid, from wet to dry. Every step is completed by hand, a challenging and time-consuming process that can take up to eight hours per piece.

"I am required to slow down, taking time for each piece to pass through my hands multiple times."

In our current world everything is easily available, we often don't know how something is made. By sharing the process with full transparency Milou hopes you will look at each piece differently.

"I've always believed that tableware truly gains its value at the table, where stories are shared and memories are created.”

It’s from this belief that 'curated by' was born. A platform where Milou invites inspiring creatives to curate their own tableware collection. The goal is not simply to borrow their vision, but to engage in a conversation about their creative processes, and what moves them.

Milou’s studio is situated in an old school building at Doctor Jan van Breemenstraat 1A in Amsterdam.
